The Springfield Arson Squad is a joint investigative unit comprised of members of the Springfield Fire and Police Departments responsible for determining the origin and cause of fires. If the cause is determined to be incendiary (deliberate burning of property) the investigator pursues the incident judicially with hopes of making an arrest and assisting with the prosecution of the defendant within the court system. The Springfield Bomb Squad is responsible for the safe disposal of explosive devices, suspicious packages, Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD), and other hazardous items.   

The Springfield Fire Department Repair Division is responsible for maintenance work on a wide variety of department vehicles and equipment per NFPA 1901 standards.
